Pro-Life Speech on Abortion
by Kevin Cirronella
Aristotle once said that "Justice is giving each their due." In today's society, this idea has been eradicated on many levels and issues. Abortion is one of these issues. Everyone, I believe, would agree that life is a basic right for each individual. Just like Aristotle thought; life is what everyone is due, and life is a just principle.
Abortion is an act which denies the individual the basic right to life. Not only does it deny this just right, it denies it to the most innocent of God's and society's creation; the unborn child. This most beautiful creation is denied what everyone is due. When you look into the face of a child, you see the face of God in all its aspects; beauty, innocence, kindness, and gentleness. Why is it that these unborn children are denied that of which we all believe is the basic right of all people? Society has forgotten what Aristotle said so very long ago. Those words can mean the difference between life and death.
Around the United States 1.37 million abortions are performed each year. That's approximately 3,700 abortions a day. Abortion is denying all these children life. You hear on the news very often that people go to court, because their rights have been violated. Before the courts ought to look at these violations, they ought to look at the greatest of all right violations; the violation of the right to life. These 1.37 million unborn children can't go to court and they can't defend themselves. These massive amounts of children are being denied the greatest of all rights. Roe vs. Wade has not been overturned and that is the unjust law that is blocking each aborted child the right to life.
Abortion is a form of murder and demeans the value of human life. When a pregnant woman feels a kick in her belly, she doesn't say "Oh, the fetus kicked" or "Oh, the mass of cells that hasn't become a person kicked", she says "The baby kicked." Yes, after conception you have a real human being waiting to enter the world. Why should taking someone's life when they're in the womb be any different than taking their life when they're a baby in the crib? Pro-choice advocates claim this isn't a real baby only to justify their wrong acts in their own minds. Even if you don't believe abortion is murder, it still demeans the value of human life, since women can so cruelly stomp out a living being simply because they're inconvenienced. There is no difference between a man being killed on the street than there is a baby being aborted. They are both murders, and both must be stopped.
Abortion is murder and therefore is the work of the devil. Satan tempts men and women through lies. Abortion takes away the greatest of God's gifts, life. According to Scripture God made us in his image; we are a part of God. Abortion undermines this and portrays life like its worth nothing. Taken from Proverbs 14:12: "Some ways that seem right to man end in death." We as people can never decide when an innocent person, born or unborn, is going to die. What may seem right to us is wrong and will end in death. It's not Gods plan, it's a clouded human justification. Abortion ends in deaths of innocents, which therefore makes it inherently wrong and unjustified.
Now let's look at the mother. Women who have abortions often suffer major psychological damage from the experience along with, in some cases, the father of the child. Many women who have abortions in their younger years end up living the rest of their lives in perpetual guilt. Even if that women doesn't consider it murder at the time, that may change as she matures. Even Jane Roe (not her real name), the original woman behind the famous court decision, has completely changed her mind on abortion. She filed a petition to have the decision overturned to help relieve the guilt of hundreds of thousands of needless deaths she blames on herself. We all have a conscience, and that conscience will work against these women who get abortions.
Abortion takes away the possibility of a child to become something great. What would the world be like if Einstein or Thomas Edison's mother had aborted him? The great contributions made would have been lost. All those unborn babies being killed could have been the next greatest scientist or politician. Because of abortion, you are taking away any great life any of those children could have had. Adoption is the answer, not abortion.
There are many couples who spend years on waiting lists trying to adopt a child. The number of couples out there who cannot have a child of their own for physical reasons are too numerous to count. The waiting list for adopting babies can be 5-10 years or more. Young women in their teens are right to be concerned that they're not ready to effectively raise a child. However, if that is the case, there are plenty of wonderful people out there who are. Not only would you be bringing a valuable life into the world, you'd also be making the dream of a childless couple come true.
16 years ago, a woman decided to give her child up for adoption. She chose the path of life not death, and by what I know, that child is very happy right now. He is living with the two most loving parents anyone could ever hope for. He is also grateful that he was given life, and not heartlessly stomped out. He would like to say thank you and to choose life, because that child is me. I am a living testimony of all those children who are being aborted every year, and that's why the idea of life is very precious to me. Abortion is unjustified and inherently wrong, thus I ask for a vote of confidence in life.
